Running Boston Without a BQ: Charity and Other Entries
You do not have to qualify to run Boston. A meaningful share of the field enters through non-qualifying routes, the largest being charity.
Charity entries
The BAA partners with official charities that receive guaranteed bibs. In exchange for a bib, you commit to raising a set amount for that charity, often several thousand dollars. There is no time standard, only the fundraising commitment and the work that comes with it.
Other routes
Sponsors, official travel partners, and invitational programs also hold bibs. These vary year to year and often sell out quickly.
If you would rather qualify
For many runners, chasing the standard is more appealing than fundraising. If you are close, see how much faster you need to run to clear the likely cutoff in the predictor.
