The six Abbott World Marathon Majors each control entry in their own way. Knowing the differences helps you target the ones you can actually earn.
The systems
- Boston: strict age-graded qualifying standard, then a cutoff if oversubscribed. Merit-based.
- Chicago and Berlin: guaranteed time-qualifier entry at more generous standards, plus a lottery for everyone else.
- London: large public ballot, plus Good for Age and championship time routes.
- New York: time-qualifier guaranteed entry, plus a lottery, plus the 9+1 local route.
- Tokyo: lottery plus a Run as One and semi-elite time route.
