When to Register for Boston and How Acceptance Works

Qualifying is only the first step. You also have to apply during the registration window and wait for the acceptance decision.

The application week

Registration for the next April race typically opens in September. All qualifiers submit during the same application window; submitting on the first day does not help, because acceptance is by time, not by order of application. As long as you apply within the window, your speed relative to other applicants is what counts.

How acceptance is decided

After the window closes, the BAA accepts the fastest applicants in each age and gender group until the field is full, then announces the cutoff. If your buffer beats the cutoff, you are in. Confirm the exact dates on the official BAA site each year.

Before you apply, check whether your buffer is likely to clear the cutoff with the predictor.
